The site of St. Fin Barre’s Cathedral has welcomed pilgrims and worshippers to bear witness to their Christian Faith since the 7th century and the tradition continues today.

Saint Fin Barre’s Cathedral, as a place of worship and Christian community, seeks to witness to the Gospel of Christ within the Anglican tradition through liturgical and musical excellence, the welcome of all from the city and beyond and strives to be an historic and holy place where all can listen, look, participate, and learn of the riches of the Christian tradition witnessed to here since the time of Saint Fin Barre.

The Very Revd Nigel Dunne

The Dean

The Very Reverend Nigel Dunne is a native of Kildare and was educated in St Andrew’s College, Dublin, Trinity College, Dublin and the Church of Ireland Theological College.

He was made deacon in Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin in 1990 and ordained priest there in 1991. He served his first curacy in Saint Bartholomew’s and Christ Church Leeson Park in Dublin and then a second curacy in Taney parish, Dublin. He then served as incumbent of Blessington Union of Parishes from 1998 to 2002 and then moved to be incumbent of Bandon Union in Cork from 2002 to 2007. He was then appointed as Dean of Cork and incumbent of St Fin Barre’s Union of Parishes in 2007.

The Dean serves on many Diocesan Committee’s, is a member of General Synod and of some central church committees including the Representative Church Body, the Standing Committee, and the Central Communications Board. A keen liturgist, he is Hon. Secretary of the Liturgical Advisory Committee and is a member of the executive committee of the Liturgical Association of Ireland.

The Dean's Vicar The Reverend Martin Steele

The Dean's Vicar

The Reverend Martin Steele was born in Belfast. He was educated at Gransha Boys High, the University of Aberdeen and Trinity College Dublin. During his time in Scotland Martin attended the Scottish Episcopal Church and returned to Ireland after the completion of his studies. He was made a deacon by Bishop Patrick Rooke in the Cathedral Church of Saint Patrick, Killala in the United Dioceses of Tuam, Killala, and Achonry in 2021 to serve the people of the Kilmoremoy Union based in Ballina County Mayo. Martin was licensed by the Bishop to serve in the United Dioceses of Cork, Cloyne and Ross on 1st August 2023 and was installed as the Dean’s Vicar of the Cathedral Church of Saint Fin Barre on the 6th August 2023. Martin was ordained to the Priesthood on the feast of Saint Fin Barre 2023. Martin is a member of the Society of Catholic Priests and the Anglican-Lutheran Society.
